Opened 25 years ago, Thinktank is Birmingham’s science museum.
Over the years we have created several displays and exhibitions, covering climate change, wildlife, STEM careers, space and tech developments.
This is a busy site and with many interactives which have been well used over its history and this year we were asked to re-refresh some of the displays to update the graphics and give the place a bit of a visual spruce up. We added new hanging banners to the large Power Up display, with matching new interp labels and glass decals. On the second floor we mapped out the Ichthyosaur Marine World display and created a new full wallpaper background, labels and titles that tied the display together more. For ‘Things about me’, we created a whole new welcome wall (11mtrs long!) and redesigned the bland empty space to be bright and interactive to engage visitors of all ages*. We also updated some of the wayfinding and created new window graphics and totem for the entrance.

*On our last visit, an older visitor hovered by the wall, looked over his shoulder and then stretched out his arms to measure his reach. When an adult feels they can partake, you know you’ve done ok….
