Garden of Evolution, BBC Gardeners World Live

Ever got email whiplash? Well that was our response when we had a request in to work with Professor Alice Roberts (from the telly and many books) who was creating the main show garden with the University of Birmingham for Gardners World Live at the NEC, and we jumped at the chance.

The garden was going to tell the story of evolution, from life forming out the sea to current day and the climate crisis, and to it needed some interpretation to help guide visitors. This needed to be freestanding and suitable for outdoor use. We opted for wood panels to be sympathetic to the surroundings and commissioned a Devon based artist to create fern fronds to holder and large fern leaves to frame the introduction panels. All of this could then be repurposed at Winterbourne Gardens, where some of the plants had been grown and would be going to after the show. We created a stamped title treatment and complimented Prof. Alice’s illustrations with colour splashes.
