Ananas, Banneret, Camelopard….Dr Johnson’s Alphabet

Dr Johnson published his groundbreaking dictionary in 1755 and with 42,773 word entries, helped to standardise the English language. Not all of the words listed have lasted the test of time and many have fallen out of use. We were commissioned to create an early years activity for use in schools using some of these obsolete words to help children explore language. The project included designing a set of playing cards and box, wall frieze and schools resources.
